IGCAR Kalpakkam UDC, Scientific Assistant Selection Process:
The Selection Procedure of the Exam will be as follows: Written Exam, Skill Test & Personal Interview
IGCAR Kalpakkam UDC, Scientific Assistant Exam Details:
- Technical Officer/C: Written Examination / Personal Interview.
In case of receipt of considerable number of applications a screening test will be conducted. The test will be of two hours duration comprising 75 objective type questions in the respective subject. Each question shall carry 3 marks for correct answer and one negative mark for incorrect answer.
Marks scored in the written examination will be used for short listing the candidates for personal interview.
Final selection list shall be on the basis of the marks secured in the personal interview
Scientific Assistant/C and Stipendiary Trainee Category-I : Two stages – Written Examination followed by Personal Interview.
The written examination will be of two hours duration comprising 100 objective type questions in respective subject. Each question shall carry 3 marks for correct answer and one negative mark for incorrect answer.
Marks scored in the written examination will not have any weightage for selection of candidate through personal Interview.
Technician/C and Stipendiary Trainee Category-II:
The Process of selection involves three stages i.e. Preliminary Test, Advanced Test and Trade/Skills Test.
Stage 1 – Preliminary Test
- Examination shall comprise 50 Multi Choice Questions (Choice of four answers) of one hour duration . in’ the following proportion;

General Awareness | 10 Questions |
- Three (3) marks will be awarded for each correct answer and One (1) mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
iii. Qualifying Standards

Stage 2 – Advanced Test
- All candidates qualifying in Stage 1 to undertake an Advanced test in their respective trade.
- The test will comprise 50 Multi Choice Questions (Choice of four answers) with three (3) Marks awarded for each correct answer and one (1) marks deducted for each incorrect answer. Test will be of two hours duration.
iii. Qualifying Standards

- A merit list of candidates will be prepared based upon scores obtained in Stage 2 only.
- In the event of a tie, following criteria shall be adopted in sequence for deciding position in merit list:
Candidate with lower negative Marks in Stage 2 shall be placed higher on the merit list.
Candidate with higher marks in Stage 1 shall be placed higher on the merit list.
Candidate with Lower negative Marks in Stage 1 shall be placed higher on the merit list
Candidate with higher positive marks in Mathematics in Stage 1 shall be placed higher
Candidate with higher positive marks in Science in Stage 1 shall be placed higher
“Preliminary and Advanced Tests will be conducted on the same day
Stage 3 – Trade/Skills Test
- Based upon the merit list prepared after Stage 2 candidates in each trade will be shortlisted for Trade/Skills Test.
- The number of candidates to be shortlisted for Trade/Skills Test would depend upon the number of candidates qualifying for Stage 2 but shall not exceed 4-5 times the number of vacancies in each trade.
iii. Trade/Skills Test will be conducted on a “Go/No-Go” basis. iv. Candidates clearing the Trade/Skills Test will be shortlisted and empanel led in order of merit based on marks secured in Stage 2.
iii Upper Division Clerk
Level 1:
The written examination will be of one and half hours duration comprising 100 objective type questions.
Objective Test Covering:
- General English
- General Knowledge
- General Intelligence & Reasoning
- Quantitative Aptitude [Arithmetic]
Three (3) marks will be awarded for each correct answer and One (1) mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
Level 2:
The written examination will be of Three hours in English Language and Comprehension. Descriptive Written Test
- English Language and Comprehension
Final selection /Empanelment will be based on marks obtained in Level-2 Test.
- Stenographer Grade III
Level 1: The written examination will beof one and half hours duration comprising 100 objective type questions.
” Objective Test Covering:
- General English
- General Knowledge
- General Intelligence & Reasoning
- Quantitative Aptitude [Arithmetic] Three (3) marks will be awarded for each correct answer and One (1) mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer,
Level 2
Stenography Skill Test
Minimum Speed of 80 w.p.m in English Shorthand and 30 w.p.m in English Typewriting.
